HANTAM HUIS RESTAURANT
Traditional Karoo meals served in one of Calvinia’s most historic and character-filled settings.
WHERE HISTORY, HOSPITALITY & HERITAGE MEET
Hantam Huis Restaurant is more than a place to enjoy a meal — it is part of the living heritage of Calvinia. Set within the town’s oldest authentic home, built in 1854, it brings together history, character, and genuine Karoo hospitality in one memorable setting.
Carefully restored over many years, Hantam Huis remains true to its original charm while welcoming guests to relax and dine in a space shaped by tradition. Whether you are staying in the guesthouses or simply visiting for a meal, the experience is warm, personal, and unmistakably Hantam.
From hearty breakfasts to traditional favourites, meals are served with generosity, flavour, and a true sense of home.
A place to slow down, settle in, and enjoy the true taste of the Karoo.
The Heart of Hantam Huis
Born in Calvinia, Marina moved to Cape Town in 1989 to study Food Service Management at the Cape Technikon. She later spent seven years working in the cafeteria at First National Bank. In 1998, Mrs Coetzee asked her to lend a hand in the Hantam Huis kitchen — and more than two decades later, she is still part of its story. Marina is known for her comforting, home-style cooking, prepared with care, generosity, and love. When guests sit down at Hantam Huis, they experience true Karoo hospitality through generous portions, traditional flavours, and meals that feel deeply personal.
From slow-cooked favourites to freshly prepared dishes, every plate carries something of the Hantam — and the warmth of Marina’s kitchen.
