Dorphuis

Die Dorphuis, circa 1860, was lovingly restored by Erwin and Alta Coetzee to reflect its Victorian heritage. Stepping inside this National Monument feels like entering another century — where antiques are not decorative props but authentic treasures still in daily use.

The house offers three luxury rooms, six outside rooms (four of which are original “nagmaal” rooms), and two modern suites. Every wall tells a story, adorned with family portraits and carefully selected period pieces that evoke a sense of nostalgia and quiet reverence.

Guests from around the world have described Die Dorphuis as unforgettable — a landmark in their travels, a reminder of childhood visits to grandparents, a place where time slows and history feels tangible.

The atmosphere is one of calm and stillness. You walk softly here. You breathe deeply. The silence carries the past.

The colourful kitchen, stocked with milk and coffee, invites a sense of homely comfort. Firewood is available on request for braais, and dinners or BBQ packs can be arranged, including special dietary options. While the Old World charm once resisted technology, most rooms now include satellite TV — with the exception of the historic Knegtekamer, where modernity would feel out of place.

Dedicated staff attend to every detail, ensuring your stay — and your Hantam breakfasts and traditional dinners at nearby Hantam Huis — are truly memorable.
